THE fish were biting when more than 450 anglers took part in this year's Bidgee Classic on the weekend.
Although numbers were slightly down compared to previous years, Bidgee Classic Committee chairman Rod Palmer declared the event a success.
"All-in-all it was a great weekend," he said.
"The numbers were down a little, but with the weather the way it was and a number of other events on in the area, that was understandable.
"We are still very pleased with the amount of people that did participate.
"There were plenty of people from out of town that participated, which is good to see because that means they were in town all weekend supporting our community."
A total of 781 fish were caught during the weekend, with one Murray Cod, 60 golden perch and 720 carp making up the amount.
The overall champions for the weekend were Rodney Beer (senior male), Kellie Griffiths (senior female), Jack Brady (junior boy) and Crystal Griffiths (junior girl).
The overall length club champion title went to the Whitton Social Anglers Club.
The Ray Heath "Digger" Memorial Shield was won by the team consisting of Mr Beer, Joshua Beer, Nathan Beer and Bill Wright.
Leeton Tourism co-ordinator Brent Lawrence said the Bidgee Classic was a great event for Leeton.
"This was my first Bidgee Classic and I was very impressed with what I saw," he said.
"Although the numbers were slightly down I know the committee was still very happy.
"Everyone was very well-behaved on the water and seemed to be enjoying themselves."
Any competitors that weren't at the official presentations on Sunday afternoon and won prizes can collect them from the Leeton Visitors Information Centre.
