CLEANING out bins has never been so much fun.
The Friends of Luro committee has so far collected hundreds of bins to be sent to the East Timorese community of Luro to be used as food storage containers.
Last weekend came the task of cleaning out the bins by the committee so they can be transported to East Timor from Footscray in Victoria.
The bins once in East Timor will help residents to reduce the "hunger season" as they will be able to collect and store food for longer periods of time.
Friends of Luro secretary Russell Reinke said the bins would provide secure storage.
"On Saturday we cleaned about 100 bins and they are all now stacked and ready to go," he said.
"We will be holding another working bee at some stage and we found we actually had a lot of fun at the one we held last weekend.
"We had a lot of helpers and it was also great to see students from Yanco Agricultural High School there helping us out as well."
Delfim Markes, who is Luro's community development officer and is in Leeton at the moment, was also present to help out on the day.
At present, communities in East Timor are allocating and drawing up land to create municipalities, similar to local government areas and Mr Markes is in Leeton learning all he can about local government to take back to his community.
Mr Reinke was pleased Mr Markes was getting to see what the Leeton community is doing to help Luro.
"Delfim is quite amazed at everything we are doing here in Leeton for his community," he said.
"He is aware that many people are contributing and was happy to see various couples in the Leeton version of It Takes Two have chosen Friends of Luro as their charity.
"I know Delfim and the Luro community are very grateful for everything the Leeton community is doing to help."
Anyone wishing to donate their old garbage bins to Friends of Luro can drop it off at Boree Cabinets.
