GRALEE School was another Leeton school to successfully gain Federal Government funding for two infrastructure projects.
The school was allocated $250,000 under the first round of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century funding program to complete construction of a new COLA ($140,000) and for a classroom upgrade ($110,000).
Parkview Public School received $2 million to build a new hall under the funding.
Gralee School principal Fiona Wylie said she was more than happy with the funding.
“We applied for it, but we never expected to get as much as we did,” she said.
“The benefits for the students will be just fantastic, particularly with the classroom upgrade because it will make everything more functional.
“We are just so grateful we received the grant because there is a lot we would like to do at the school.”
The works at the school will have to be completed by the end of next year.
Ms Wylie was unsure how long it would take for the work to be completed.
“Originally we applied for funding for a shade structure as we already have a COLA,” she said.
“So we are just waiting to hear what will happen there.
“It is also great that Leeton businesses and tradesmen will be a part of completing the work considering the current economic situation.”
Last month three other schools in the Leeton Shire received grants under the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution project funding.
Wamoon Public School received $50,000, Yanco Agricultural High School $150,000 and Yanco Public School received $75,000.
The funding from both programs is expected to create more than 1000 jobs in NSW.
