Helou to bid adieu to SunRice

17 Jun, 2011 04:00 AM
SUNRICE has announced the shock resignation of chief executive officer Gary Helou.

The news comes just two weeks after rice growers voted to stop a takeover of SunRice by Ebro.

Mr Helou is set to leave the company on September 14.

According to SunRice, Mr Helou has accepted the role of managing director at the Murray Goulburn Co-operative in Victoria.

The past few months have been busy at SunRice and rice growers thanks to a hugely successful harvest and the failed takeover by Ebro.

It is not known if the takeover bid played any part in Mr Helou's resignation, but SunRice chairman Gerry Lawson expressed his thanks to his colleague's dedication to local producers.

"Gary has made a very significant contribution and impact as SunRice's CEO over the past 11 years," he said.
