AFTER months of organising, the business community of Leeton was recognised in full splendour at the 2009 Leeton Outstanding Business Awards on Saturday night.
The auditorium at the Leeton Soldiers Club was packed with more than 350 people attending the awards gala and there were also plenty of laughs with comedian Stephen Abbott, otherwise known as the Sandman, keeping residents entertained throughout the evening.
Leeton tourism events co-ordinator Ange Wakeman said the evening was a success.
"I think everyone really enjoyed themselves," she said.
"It was a full house, which was good to see because the awards are the only real opportunity for the business community to come together and celebrate their achievements.
"I thought the Sandman provided great entertainment and we were glad to have him on board."
Leeton Shire Council mayor Paul Maytom told the crowd the awards were a testament to the community.
"We are still facing uncertain times, but the Leeton community continues to rally together and show their support for one another," he said.
"I think Leeton is a very strong community."
Leeton Trophy and Gift Centre won the Most Outstanding Business Award, while Ted Celi of Climate Technologies was named the Most Outstanding Business Person.
Co-owner of Leeton Trophy and Gift Centre Kath Dunn was shocked when the announcement was made.
"We were very excited to be presented with this award," she said.
"We weren't expecting it at all and it's just such an amazing feeling.
"This award is as much for our customers as it is for us because without them our business wouldn't be as successful as it is. We just love Leeton."
Dianna Celi accepted the award on behalf of her father Ted Celi and was pleased her father had been recognised by the community.
"We weren't expecting this at all so it's a shame he couldn't be here tonight because this is just such an honour," she said.
"Our business is well-supported by the Leeton community so it is a testament to them as much as it is to Dad."
The Irrigator roll of honour award was presented to Sue Gavel.
