THE signs have made it official - Leeton is a recreational vehicle (RV) friendly town.
Last year Leeton was declared an RV-friendly town by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA), with new signs being placed at various entrances into Leeton to encourage RV owners to stay.
In order to qualify for the scheme Leeton had to successfully meet the needs of mobile travellers and satisfy stringent criteria, including access to medical facilities, a pharmacy, a dump point, a general shopping area, provision of appropriate parking, a vehicle service centre and a visitor information centre.
CMCA also considered the general attitude of Leeton Shire Council and the community so as to identify the friendliest areas in Australia.
Tourism co-ordinator Brent Lawrence was hopeful the new signage would promote Leeton as an RV-friendly town.
"The grey nomad market niche is an ever-increasing group that continues to stimulate local economies through a range of activities, including the purchasing of groceries, retail clothing shopping and attraction-based visitation," he said.
"Staff have been pro-active at the Visitors Information Centre in ensuring our 'big rig' visitors and grey nomads have been well looked after to make their stay in Leeton memorable.
"This signage will further enhance Leeton's reputation as an RV-friendly destination, with more than adequate motorhome facilities."
The RV-friendly town scheme promotes tourism-related services across Australia by promoting the partnership between the RV tourists and small towns.
