Town's first traffic lights are installed

01 Jul, 2011 04:00 AM
LEETON had its first set of traffic lights installed this week.

It was announced in September last year the work would be completed by the end of June this year, with the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) keeping to its deadline.

The lights are placed at the intersection of Irrigation Way, Canal Street and Vance Road.

In preparing the intersection, Leeton Shire Council undertook rehabilitation work that included widening pavements, establishing new centre medians and extending the turn lane where Irrigation Way turns into Canal Street.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation recently undertook work over the railway line at the location to install boom gates, new rails and concrete sleepers.

The pedestrian maze over the railway line has also been reconstructed.

The work has been completed under the 2009-10 National Blackspot Program, with the RTA managing the project.

Council and the RTA are yet to comment on the current works.
