EVER heard of kettlebells?

If not, the kettlebell is a cast iron weight, which gets its heritage from Russia and looks somewhat like a cannonball with a handle.

Leeton school teacher Mark Elliot as created a fitness revolution in town by using kettlebells to help trim down and tone up residents.

Mr Elliot spent 14 years in the army has a combat soldier and now uses his skills to help Leeton residents train and lose weight.

According to Mr Elliot kettlebells are the perfect way to lose weight.

“My training is unconventional, but it works,” he said.

“I struggled with my own weight after leaving the army and when I discovered kettlebells the weight just fell off.

“Kettlebells are different to conventional weights as you use them to train using your body’s natural movements.”

Last year Mr Elliot was named Australian Kettlebeller of the Year.

“It’s hard work and involves a lot of training,” he said.

“But kettlebells are definitely helping a lot of people lose weight.”

After residents started to notice the change in Mr Elliot’s physique he agreed to hold kettlebell training classes in his back shed.

Since then the classes have gone from strength to strength with more than 60 people attending classes a week.

Young and old have all tried out the classes with huge success.

Mr Elliott said the classes run six days a week and are always filled to capacity.

“I just love training with people,” he said.

“I’ve seen mums who have come to the classes and can hardly life shopping bags, after attending classes for three months most can then lift up to 60kg using the kettlebells.”

The weight of kettlebells ranges from 6kg up to 56kg.
