 Finals spot up for grabs

Finals spot up for grabs

12 Mar, 2010 03:00 AM
THE season will come to an end for either Yanco Hotel or Hotel Leeton this weekend as the team's face-off in the elimination semi-final.

The do-or-die match will be played at Mark Taylor Oval, while the Colts and the Cougars will meet at Yanco Sportsground in the major semi-final, with the winner earning a spot in the two-day decider to be played on March 27 and 28.

The Stags have the recent form over Hotel Leeton, having won a dour one-dayer between the two sides a few weeks ago, but before that Hotel was in a purple patch.

Yanco Hotel captain Mark Doyle believes it is set to be big game and his team is ready to advance to the preliminary final the following weekend.

"We'll probably have the best team on the field we've had in a bit from who's available," he said. "All the players are ready to rock and roll.

"I'll get a vibe at training of how guys are going, but everyone is pretty keen to finish the season strongly."

Hotel Leeton started slowly but has gained momentum since the Christmas break and Doyle said the Stags will be wary of the opposition's old heads.

"They are a very under-rated side," he said. "They've got a lot of good players who have been there, done that, it's just a matter of putting it together on the day.

"They've got good bowlers like Matt Robertson and Travis Irvin, and Dave Elwin too. Then with the bat, guys like Daryl Clayton and Mick Fraser are dangerous and Dave Elwin again.

"It's a pretty experienced side."

Yanco Hotel has been fielding and bowling well and Doyle said forging match-winning partnerships will be the key to downing Hotel Leeton.

"We'll need to focus on our batting, particularly building partnerships," he said.

"We've got plenty of overs to settle in and try and build a good partnership."
