YANCO Hotel is still without a win in the one-day competition after going down to rival Yanco All-Servicemen's Club at Yanco Sportsground on Saturday.
YASC won the toss and opted to bat, lasting its 40 overs to post a target of 7-177.
Opener Richard Smith (42) got the Cougars off to a good start, but the Stags also got on the front foot early with the wickets of Peter Lashbrook (8), bowled by Todd Norton (2-47), and Ashley Fraser (3), caught by captain Mark Doyle off Dioniso Pantano.
At 2-20, YASC needed a decent partnership to push the score along and it got one through captain Adrian Axtill (31) and Smith, with the duo putting on 49 runs.
The stand was broken when Axtill was caught by Doyle off Jackson Sommerville, but it only brought Dan Davies (57) to the crease and his half-century included an 84-run partnership with Smith.
Davies, who faced only 51 balls and hit six fours and one six, was bowled by Norton to bring YASC to 4-153.
Smith was run out in the next over and the wickets started to fall quickly, with Steve Stockton (4) falling seven balls later.
Norton ran Mark Burns (14) out in the next over, but it was the last wicket to fall.
In reply, the Stags lost wickets early on for a shaky start. Alex Batchelor (2) was caught by Ben Crittenden off Burns and Garth Chambers, who opened the batting, was bowled for 13 by Ricky Harrison.
Harrison had his second wicket not long after, bowling Norton (13), before Burns removed Doyle (7) with the help of Peter Lashbrook's safe hands.
Sommerville (3) was also removed cheaply by Kieren O'Callaghan (2-32) and Yanco Hotel was sinking quickly at 5-42.
Fortunately, Steve McCarten (78) mounted a rescue mission with a brilliant knock, including nine fours. Paul Lanham (14) managed to stay at the crease long enough to put on a much-needed stand of 40 runs with McCarten until he became O'Callaghan's second victim.
Axtill chimed in with a wicket before Tony Tocin bowled the danger man McCarten. Two balls later, Tocin took his second wicket when he bowled John Robinson for a duck.
Pantano (8) was run out by Stockton to seal a 28-run victory for YASC in its first one-day game of the season.
