Jess represents her state in the States

20 Nov, 2009 03:00 AM
JESSICA Davy's soccer skills are taking her all the way to America, with the Leeton United junior jetting off tomorrow to represent NSW in the Surf Tour in San Diego.

The achievement came on the back of her efforts for NSW Country at nationals earlier in the year, and will result in her playing for the Pacific Blue under 17s in the tournament.

There will be 36 sides competing in two pools, meaning the competition will be the biggest Jessica has played in.

It is also be one of the hardest, with most of the American girls playing for university scholarships.

Jessica, who usually plays right back, said it was a thrill to be selected to go overseas, especially coming from a regional area.

"We're the only Australian team going over," she said.

"It should be really tough.

"We're playing some trials in LA first."

NSW Country finished third at nationals, its highest-ever result, and what makes Jessica's achievements even more special is that this was her first year in the Country side after representing Riverina four times.

"The team's picked from the NSW Country and Metro teams," she said.

"There's only one other Country girl in there and the rest are Metro."

For Leeton United, Jessica plays in the women's side and also in the under 17s boys and reserve grade, but 2009 will be her last season.

Jessica has been accepted by Brisbane State High School, where she will be able to keep playing at a high level.

"We're moving to Queensland and I applied and got in," she said. "It goes on your sporting merits."

It's a big trip to the US and travel is something Jessica has had to do a lot of, including going to Sydney every weekend for training in the lead-up to the tour.

Jessica appreciates the help she has received to make her chance to play in America a reality.

"Thank you to Leeton and Griffith football clubs for generous donations and thank you to the Leeton community for all their support in helping me get to America," she said.

"All their support has been very much appreciated."
