LEETON Soldiers Golf Club pro Jason Mimmo is tipping the course record to be blown away over the 2010 SunRice Pro-Am this weekend.
A best-ever line-up of 92 professionals, including US, Asian and European tour players and 15 former Leeton pro-am winners, has Mimmo expecting the unexpected this weekend.
"It's the best group of pros we've ever had," he said
"With that quality of field, we're going to see a record score, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was 14 or 15 under par.
"I'm talking like 64, 65. It would not surprise me."
Pro numbers were set to double from last year's event, but some of the bottom-ranked players pulled out, leaving a high-quality field to contest the 2008 NSW Country Pro-Am of the Year.
"For the bottom-ranked guys it was just too far to come for one event," Mimmo said. "There's 92 pros though and it's the most we've ever had.
"Last year we only had 55, so word has gotten around that this is a pretty good event and they've come to have a look.
"We'll have 140 amateurs, which is about on par. There's more numbers overall though because of the pros."
Mimmo said there are too many standouts in the classy field to name one favourite.
"It's a pretty good week, they play six days straight two days Wagga, two days Griffith, two days here and it's pretty good money as well," he said. "We've got the best players we've ever had. We've got about 20 guys who played in the same Masters with Tiger (Woods) down in Kensington Heath.
"We've got more than 15 previous Leeton Pro-Am winners and a couple of guys in a bit of form.
"David Bransdon just finished second in the Victorian PGA, shooting 21-under par for four rounds and ran second.
"We've got Steven Bowditch, who has played on the US tour.
"Aaron Townsend, who won it in 2007 and he won the NSW Open last year. Martin Doyle as well is a previous Leeton winner, and Andre Stoltz, who actually won a tournament on the US tour and he is another one that played at the Masters.
"There's heaps of Asian and European tour players, which is amazing.
"Our Aussie boys who have Asian tour cards won't head across until late March, early April, so we got them all.
"Matty Millar is another guy with a European tour and Chris Gaunt played the European tour last year as well.
"Some of these guys would have won upwards of half-a-million last season, so it's pretty good to have them here."
With a field so full of talented players, Mimmo joked about his own chances of winning his first Leeton SunRice Pro-Am this weekend.
"I've probably had the worst lead-up to the pro-am in years," he said. "But it's going to be a good thing because in previous years I've played really well leading up to the pro-am and still haven't won.
"It's a common fact that a local pro never does any good at his own pro-am."
