Twilight competition kicks off for new year

22 Jan, 2010 03:00 AM
THE second half of the Leeton Soldiers Golf Club's Twilight 8s tournament is underway after players enjoyed a three-week break over the Christmas period.

The tournament has been split into three divisions and teams are now locked into either division one, two or three for the remainder of the event. After preliminary rounds, the top two teams in each section will then play-off in the grand final.

Round 12 has now been completed and people obviously missed their weekly nine-hole bash as round 12 recorded the highest player numbers so far this season.

The break also gave competitors the chance to refresh and work on any aspects of their games that may have needed some fine-tuning for the business end of the tournament.

James Maloney from division two squad Acme Aces is the player of the week after recording an impressive 28 nett. He will now lose eight shots off his handicap, bringing it down to 10.

His team recorded a nett total of 170, which was unfortunately one stroke shy of winning the team of the week honours, which in the end went to Harry Odewahn's Whymees, who returned 169 nett.

There are three teams who require an extra player for the remainder of the year, so if you are interested or know someone who is, contact Jason at the Pro Shop on 6953 3292.

Don't forget the Australia Day Par 3 tournament on Tuesday.
