Dropshots are in the box seat

THE third week of the Leeton Soldiers Club squash competition was played last week.

It is only a five-week competition and the winner will be decided by who finishes first on the ladder as there are no finals.

Dropshots lead Tuesday's competition and they continued on their winning way, crushing Backhanders 3-0. In a battle between the Narrandera players, Rob Johnston outlasted Bruce Whitby to win the fourth and fifth games in a hard-fought match.

Jason Robertson and Patrick Naimo won 3-1 against John Lacy and sub Nicholas Beecher.

Lobs won two close five-game matches in their 3-0 win over Boasts. Frank Bruno won the match of the week against Tom Cotter, in which both players scored 52 points. Games scores were 12-10, 8-11, 11-8, 7-11, 14-12.

In another cliffhanger, Peter Steer won the fifth game 12-10 against Brian Dunn, while Brian O'Leary returned to the winner's list with a convincing win over Bryan Shepley.

Tossers defeated Smashers 2-1 with David Cross continuing his good form to defeat Chris McKay in a close match where he won two games 12-10. Tim Hutchinson was too strong for Col Thompson and Jacob Blissett chalked up Smashers' only victory when he defeated Samual Macauley.

Swans scored a 3-1 win over Magpies to maintain their lead in Wednesday's competition. Barry Greatz and Mitchell Hutchinson defeated Roy Whitehead and Hayden O'Callaghan, with Tony Naimo completing the victory with a 3-1 win over sub Rod Harrison.

Magpies' winner was Karen Robertson, who had to use all her experience to overcome promising junior Daniel DiSalvatore, 3-2. Robertson won the crucial points in a close contest in which DiSalvatore scored 50 points to Robertson's 45.

Hawks and Saints were locked together on two matches and six games each, but the Hawks just got home on points, 105-103. Hawks' victories went to Robert Hanlon and Ian Alexander, who defeated Brad Woolner and Nicole Rowley. Saints' winners were Luke Blissett and Jenny Hyde, who defeated sub Hayden O'Callaghan and Michelle Quinlivan.

Matthew McKay won the fifth game 11-8 against Nicholas Naimo to lead Bombers to a 3-1 win over Cats. Bill Robertson and David Middleton defeated Rod Harrison and sub Richard Lyons to complete the victory. Mark Jennings overpowered Tracey Cotter for Cats' only win.

Roosters continue to lead Thursday's competition following their 2-1 win over Dragons, with Maclain Hyde and Nicholas Beecher scoring 3-1 wins over sub Tom Cotter and Erin Cotter. Dragons captain Matthew Dunn is in fine form and he was too good for Rod Tait.

Bunnies beat Storm 2-1, with Debbie Evans and Claire Dunn defeating Jamie Mooney and Stephen Pidgeon. Storms' victory went to Richard Lyons, who was victorious against Kylie Moore.

All matches were decided in four games when Sea Eagles defeated Broncos 2-1. Terry Emerson finished too well for Carol Davidson, while in a battle of the left-handers, Trish Fletcher won an even contest against Renelle Napier.

Broncos' victory went to Mick Fletcher, who finished ahead in a close battle against Tina Dunn.

Nominations for the next 10-week competition close on Saturday.
