THE Leeton Soldiers Club squash competition has reached the halfway mark, with players are now finding form and fitness after the summer break.

Tuesday's competition was even and this was highlighted when Miss Hits caused an upset by securing a 3-1 victory over top-placed Lets. Mathew Dunn won a hard-fought five-game battle against sub David Middleton, Luke Blissett defeated Roy Whitehead 3-1 and Stephen Pidgeon was too good for Will Evans.

Lets' only winner was Jenny Hyde, who finished too well to defeat Chris Curry in five.

In the closest match of the week, Rallies and Double Hits both won two matches and nine games, but Rallies won on points 228-220.

Rallies' winners were David Middleton, who used his running skills to outlast Ben Carroll in a tough five-game match to remain undefeated, and Leanne Reinke, who scored a 3-1 victory over Janet Manning.

Double Hits captain David Cross clinched the fifth game 15-13 against Jason Robertson and Patrick Naimo defeated Jamie Mooney in a close four-game contest.

Strokes defeated Penalties by 8-7 games after both teams won two matches with Barry Greatz and Renelle Napier winning against Rod Harrison and Trish Fletcher. Penalties captain Brian Dunn continued his good form with a 3-1 win over Chris McKay.

Player of the Week went to Tom Cotter, who subbed up and played great squash to defeat Glenda Whitby 3-1.

Drives are the front-runners in Wednesday's competition and they overpowered Lobs 4-0, with Ian Alexander and Debbie Evans maintaining their undefeated records with 3-1 victories over Allan Macarthur and Carol Davidson. David Sarah won the first two games against Rob Johnston, who fought back to level the match at 2-all before Sarah was able to steady and win the fifth 15-11.

Scott Quinlivan completed the whitewash when he defeated sub Mathew Dunn.

Backhands and Drop Shots finished on two matches each, but Backhands won 8 -7, with Brian Troy defeating sub Hayden Reinke and Michael Johnston winning 3-1 over Frank Bruno. Drop Shots captain Trevor Whitby is hitting top form and he played too well for Tony Naimo and Brad Woolner remained undefeated when he outlasted Tim Hutchinson in a five-game battle.

Robert Hanlon scored a strong win over Jacob Harrison to remain undefeated and led Forehands to a 3-1 win over Boasts. In a double sub match, Maclain Hyde won 3-1 against Tom Cotter, while Erin Cotter defeated Macauley Harrison in an even four-game contest and Bruce Whitby went down to Bryan Shepley.

Going into last week's matches, Smashes and Aces were equal leaders in Thursday's competition, but Smashes have taken outright lead as they defeated Aces 8-7 games after both teams won two matches.

Brian O'Leary scored a strong win over Bill Robertson and Jacob Blissett won the fourth game 17-16 to overcome Karen Robertson.

Aces' Nicole Rowley, defeated Tina Dunn to retain her undefeated record. Michelle Quinlivan led Ruth Tait 2-0, but Tait recovered to win the next two games convincingly.

With the match hanging in the balance, Quinlivan's tactics unsettled Tait and she went on to win the fifth game 15-11.

Serves scored a 3-1 win over Hand Outs with Marcelle Steele and Rod Tait defeating Brad Muller and Hayden Reinke in four games.

Glenn Saddler has not lost a match this competition and his boast shots were too good for sub Jenny Hyde, while sub Erin Cotter lost in four to Monique Looby.

In a battle that could have gone either way, Volleys defeated Hot Shots 3-1, but they did it the hard way by winning two matches in five games.

Scott Jennings won the fifth game 15-13 against Maclain Hyde and Mick Fletcher lost the first two games to Tracey Cotter before recovering to win in five.

In his third match for the week Tom Cotter won a close four game match against Simon Jackson while Col Thompson lost to an in form Jeff Ticehurst.
