THE Greens only had a brief stint in last weekend's West Wyalong Knockout, but coach Brad Purtell said the team got a lot of positives out of it.
Leeton didn't make it past the first round held last Friday night, going down 10-nil to Group 9 club Southcity.
Purtell said he would have liked his troops to get some more game time, though overall he was pleased with the display.
"It was a bit disappointing to get beaten 10-0, it's only half-an-hour of footy though," he said.
"We made a few critical mistakes and turned the ball over cheaply at times. That made it easy for Southcity.
"I wasn't happy with how we threw the ball away sometimes, but I was pretty happy with our defence and there was a lot to work with.
"I got a fair few positives out of it."
Purtell said the Greens almost made it through as the highest-ranked loser if not for an on-the-bell try from Southcity.
"One of their tries was a 50-metre effort and that was right on full-time," he said. "If it was 4-nil, that would've got us through to the next round."
Purtell is new to the club this season and the knockout was one of the first chances for the players to impress him.
"I'm happy with how the boys played and I got to have a little bit of a look at them," Purtell said.
"It's hard to judge in a game that though because there's nothing to lose and you just throw the ball around.
"I'll get a better look at the boys when we got to Albury."
The Greens will be travelling to take on Lavington in a game on March 13.
The eventual winners of the knockout were Group 9's Wagga Kangaroos over host West Wyalong
