Hawks are ready to bounce back: Weir

FOLLOWING a surprise loss to Darlington Point-Coleambally last week, Yanco-Wamoon will be out to make amends with a victory over West Wyalong this weekend.

The Mallee Men have been hot and cold this year, but like most teams are tougher on their home turf.

Hawks coach Warren Weir said while they downed West Wyalong in round three, it was a close game.

"We only just got over them late in the game earlier in the year," he said.

"It was a hot day and they had a pretty big forward pack that knocked us around a bit."

Yanco-Wamoon had been cruising with a streak of victories until playing the Roosters, who capitalised on the home side's poor execution.

Weir said he and the team have reviewed the game and are ready to correct last week's shortcomings.

"We're definitely keen to bounce back," he said. "We sat down and watched the video from the Point game on Tuesday night.

"The effort was there last week and we played pretty well. I was talking to one of the Point players after the game and he said it was probably the best game they'd played all year.

"We just didn't execute well. So obviously this week we'll have to execute a lot better and work on our kicks in play."

There are injury clouds over Kurt Wilton (dislocated finger) and Chase Royal, who Weir said could barely run last week due to blisters.

The coach said a number of players also missed training on Tuesday because of the flu, but was confident the Hawks would take a strong side to West Wyalong.
