Committee president Jodie Landy recently presented the branch with $2400 for the project during a short cheque presentation on the newly-refurbished cypress pine verandah.

Barellan CWA secretary Judy Findlay thanked the committee for its contribution.

"As the verandah had been in a dangerous condition, its replacement was very timely," she said.

"The remainder of the cost was raised by CWA women's efforts within the district.

"Jodie thanked the CWA for the opportunity to help retain the appearance of this important heritage building, which is still used regularly by local voluntary groups.

"She stated the Masters Games not only provide a worthwhile event bringing visitors to our town, but also to assist in maintaining Barellan's infrastructure and an attractive main street."

The Barellan Rest House was opened in 1924 and was the first of its kind to be built by the efforts of women in Australia.

It was listed on the register of the National Estate in 1997, as well as being added to the NSW Heritage Register in 2011.

"It is recognised because of its significance to women's history in Australia," Mrs Findlay said.
