A science day filled with the many spectrums it encompasses was held on Tuesday, with students from Yanco Public, Murrami Public School and Whitton Public School attending.
Everything from insects and river life to static electricity, chemical reactions and even "snot making" were covered, with students participating in both hands-on activities and listening to presentations from guest speakers. For the practical experiments, students were split into groups that were either named after famous scientists such as Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton or scienceinstruments like bunsen burner and test tube.
Yanco Public principal Tim Allen said the day was being held in conjunction with National Science Week in a bid to engage students more with the subject.
"I want the students to be asking 'why does this happen and how do you make that happen'?" he said.
"We're really trying to get them engaged with science ... science is all around us and that's what we've tried to teach them."
Presentations on the day included Narrandera Fisheries hatchery manager Matthew McLellan, who brought a Murray cray into the classroom to talk about its life cycle and how it is now considered rare in the river system.
Mr Allen was hopeful the small schools of the shire would continue working together.
"They are days of enrichment for the students," he said.
"Hopefully each school will hold a similar day at least once during the year, so that's one per term.
"It's great for the students and the staff."
The science day at Yanco Public followed on from a NAIDOC Week event at Murrami Public School during week three, which students from the small schools attended.
