WITH the 2012-13 season drawing to a close, Leeton Mini Trotting Club recently held its annual general meeting.
All executive positions were re-elected unopposed and the club is looking forward to another successful season with our experienced committee at the helm once again.
Mini trotting recommenced for the 2013-14 season at Lin Gordon Paceway as part of the Leeton Harness Racing Club meeting on the weekend, and the drivers and ponies will be out in force at the Leeton Show on Friday.
Most of the club's registered drivers took time out from their preparation for these events to attend the 2012/13 presentation afternoon in Graham Park.
Before the formalities of the day, drivers and their families enjoyed a barbecue lunch and some relaxed socialising without their equine friends, for a change.
Then it was down to the serious business of the day, with the trophy winners for 2012-13 announced.
President Barry Pitt and vice president Greg Deeves handled proceedings, with Pitt providing commentary on the achievements of all of the children as the pair presented the trophies.
n Awards included:
Club Talent of the Year Elizabeth Piltz
Up and Coming Driver Megan Chetcuti
Senior Sportsmanship Hannah Pitt
Junior Sportsmanship Kiera Boots
Terry Bourke Memorial Award Sebastian Piltz
Annie Bourke Memorial Trophy Alanah Piltz
Most Consistent Junior Driver Nikkita Smith
Most Consistent Pony Goldstar (Ryan Pitt)
Brian Munro Horse of the Year Little Secret (Hannah Pitt)
Junior Driver of the Year Siarne Deeves
Senior Driver of the Year Dylan Smith
Possibly the most desired award of all is the NR&MA Johnson Drivers' Driver, which is voted for and decided on the day of the presentations.
Each registered driver in attendance is invited to vote for one drivers who they feel is a good sport, kind and caring towards their pony, assists others and exhibits a sense of fair play at all times.
This season the hotly contested award went to the wire with a number of the children receiving one vote each.
The final vote counted went to Hannah Pitt.
In Leeton club tradition, younger siblings also received trophies as an acknowledgement of their support for their big brothers and sisters, and possibly to encourage them to follow on in their footsteps.
These trophies, The Unknown Talent Awards, were presented to Jed Driscoll, Shaiila Ogilvie-Smith, Raydon Best, Shanae Best, Karen Chetcuti and Jamie Chetcuti.
Kiera Boots and Megan Chetcuti were also presented with commemorative gear bags, being the club's newest members.
The final award for the day was a plaque of appreciation to Alanah Pitt, who reached the age of 16 during the 2012/13 season and must now retire from the sport.
Alanah spent 11 years as a driver in the Leeton Mini Trotting Club, starting with many early drives on the fabulous Goldstar, who also retired this season after innumerable wins.
