The condition of Houghton Road was once a thorn in the side of residents that lived on the stretch, with numerous complaints filed with Leeton Shire Council over the years.
It was particularly worse after rainfall, whether heavy or short showers, with residents stating it always turned to muck and was virtually inaccessible.
However, it appears times have changed for the hazardous stretch of road.
Council decided in 2010 to undertake remediation work in the area that would be staged over three years to the tune of about $120,000.
While the work did cause some controversy as it was being completed, Houghton Road resident John Houghton said it appeared to have worked.
The road is named after Mr Houghton's family, but at its worst, he said it was "an embarrassment to call it my road".
"It's a hundred times better now," Mr Houghton said.
"Council has done a very good job with it.
"It's certainly a lot better than it used to be."
At the time Mayor Paul Maytom pledged to fix the road and asked council to find the money to do so.
Mr Houghton said it was now important for council to keep up the maintenance of the road.
"If council keeps up the general maintenance it should stay in a good condition," he said.
"It would cost them a lot less now to keep up with that instead of letting it go to ruin and having to fix it all again.
"Hopefully they will keep maintaining it because it is much better now."
