I WRITE in relation to Darcy Mabon's recent letter about the impact of beef quality from gas production.

You will be happy to know Darcy, that up here in Queensland, gas production started in 1968.

Production of gas from coal seams started in the 1980s in the Bowen Basin and grew further in the 1990s in the Surat Basin.

There are no problems with gas production and beef - the two industries have been happily working together here in Queensland for nearly half century.

Many thousands of beef producers have signed up to have wells drilled on their land.

The big bonus for them is the cash, but also the additional water that they get.

You people down south will work it out sometime soon.
