The club believes books are great resources and a source of entertainment for children and, with this in mind, has planned a program where each child living in Leeton shire will receive an age-appropriate book on their first and every subsequent birthday until they turn four.
The program is being run in conjunction with the Leeton library, with staff to select the books to be sent to each child free-of-charge.
It was launched recently at the library, with one parent and his child present on the day to receive their book.
Program co-ordinator Col Attree said the aim of the initiative was to introduce the children to the enjoyment of books.
"Every child born at the (Leeton District) hospital or in the Leeton shire will receive a book on their first birthday and each birthday until their fourth, (helping) prepare them for school," Mr Attree said.
"A voucher is sent to the child on their birthday that enables them to visit the library and pick up their book."
Mr Attree thanked the library and hospital staff for their assistance with the initiative.
Leeton shire businesses wanting to sponsor the program should contact Mr Attree on 0418 623 399.
