Mr Power, who is also the Leeton RSL Sub-branch president, sustained a serious neck injury after he was dumped heavily during an ocean swim in Western Australia in March.
While he is recovering well, Mr Power said he was no longer able to give the position his everything.
Mr Power has been on the club's board for 15 years, as well as being part of the executive for around half of that time.
He resigned from the board at the end of last month, with a dinner held in his honour last Wednesday at the club.
"I've been on the board for 15 years," Mr Power said.
"Since I've had this accident my concentration and attention span has been reduced.
"I've been finding it difficult to read a lot of things and concentrate for long periods of time.
"I thought I wasn't really able to pull my weight, which is why I decided to stand down."
During Mr Power's time on the board, the club has experienced many ups and downs.
Current board president Barry Greatz said Mr Power had helped improve the club, including through its recent financial hardship.
"He has been a vital part of the board for many years," Mr Greatz said.
"It's unfortunate in the way he has had to stand down, but we certainly support and respect his decision.
"He'll be taking a lot of experience with him.
"After Les (Bonham) he was longest-serving director on the board."
While Mr Power found it hard to make the decision, he will still be offering his support to the board.
"I'll help out where I'm needed," he said.
"I'm staying on as president of the sub-branch, which is often just as big a job."
