The year 9 students spent part of Friday morning planting trees on the school grounds, including at the front entrance to the college.
Teacher Kathleen Waters said the concept worked well with the school syllabus.
"It works well with our geography lessons and the environment," she said.
"This is the first year I've done this with the school ... the students are all really enthusiastic."
National Tree Day is co-ordinated by Planet Ark to provide all Australians with an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature.
The St Francis event was made possible by various organisations that sponsored the day in many ways.
Leeton Toyota sales consultant Jason Curry said the national business had been involved with the initiative for 15 years.
"The support we provide is assisting the students with planting native trees and shrubs on the schools grounds, while supplying them with shirts, hats, gloves, stakes and tree guards," he said.
"We are hoping with our support the students can mark the beginning of a long-term environmental program and contribute to the creation of a beautiful-looking school grounds."
