Mrs Power was presented with a life membership certificate and badge at the annual conference for the Riverina and Southern Country district of the RSL (NSW) Women's Auxiliary that was held in Leeton last Saturday.
She has been treasurer of the organisation for the past 14 years and is constantly looking for new ideas to encourage new membership among younger servicemen's wives, members of families of services personnel and those in the wider community.
"It was a very big surprise ... I had no idea," Mrs Power said.
"I can't believe I didn't have any inkling about it. You don't join these organisations to get the accolades. I can think of plenty of others that are more deserving.
"It was a very special moment for me though."
The conference is held each year and updates members on the activities of the past 12 months.
Riverina and Southern Country Auxiliary councillor Marlene Preston updated attendees on the outcomes at the state conference, which included corporate governance matters, membership and RSL charity work.
Guest speaker was DefenceCare general manager Robyn Collins, who spoke later than planned after being held up by fog in Sydney.
DefenceCare is the major beneficiary of the funds raised by RSL Women's Auxiliaries throughout the state. It helps current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their families in times of injury, illness or crisis.
Mrs Collins spoke about where donated funds are spent, according to Mrs Power.
"It was an excellent conference," Mrs Power said.
"Robyn was a great guest speaker and very informative.
"Our members were all very happy with how the conference went."
