The street currently under review is Benerembah Street, with council pushing to move the limit from 60km/h to 50km/h.
Leeton Shire Council officers trawled Whitton recently to gauge public opinion on the speed regulations in the area.
Council road safety officer Stephanie Puntoriero said community consultation was an essential aspect of the review.
Between 60 and 80 residents responded to the verbal survey, with every respondent agreeing with the proposed speed drop.
"The residents were overwhelmingly positive," Mrs Puntoriero said.
Mrs Puntoriero attributed the planned change to a general review of speed limits in the area, prompted by community concern primarily from the Whitton Progress Group and the Tidy Towns Society.
"There are a lot of trucks and increased noise," Mrs Puntoriero said. School buses picking up children also regularly pass through the area, causing residents to be concerned about child safety.
Mrs Puntoriero was unable to confirm when the outcome would be known, but said the final stages were in progress.
