Police were called to a Barellan home after neighbours reported two men acting suspiciously in a car outside the house.
A friend of the resident was visiting the house when they disturbed a man already on the property.
The man fled the scene with the second and got in a white Mitsubishi Lancer that was parked outside the property.
Police attended at 10.15am and patrolled the area after witnesses provided them with descriptions of the suspects and their car.
Neither the car nor the men were located.
At 3pm that afternoon police stopped the Mitsubishi on Railway Street in Griffith.
Searching the car, police found two knives under the rear car seat.
The two men in the car, a 28 year-old from Griffith and a 37 year-old from Leeton were arrested and taken to Griffith police station.
During the police interview it was established the knives and a coffee tin filled with coins that was also found in the car, were stolen from the Bendee Street house.
The 28 year-old was charged and refused bail. He appeared in court yesterday.
The 37 year-old was released.
Police are urging anyone with information about theft or crime to contact Griffith Police in 6969 4299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
