THE quality of Leeton's oral history is cemented in film and plated with gold, with TAFE Riverina NSW Leeton Campus awarded for it's town focused film - From The Edge.

Students at TAFE worked in partnership with the Aboriginal Land Council and were led by project manager Karen Davey and Kerrie Ross when making the film last year.

Mrs Davy, who is the chief executive office of Leeton and District Local Aboriginal Land Council, approached TAFE NSW Riverina Institute Leeton Campus a few years ago about being involved in the national project.

The film - three years in the making - was screened to a rapturous reception at the Roxy Theatre last year.

The creators received an even bigger recognition more recently, this time at the prestigious Gili Awards in Sydney.

The Leeton students won the Community Engagement Award for their outstanding film, which showcased much of Leeton's history and the substantial Aboriginal contribution.

Describing the award ceremony as a "glittering night", Ms Ross said it was an honour for the film to be acknowledged in such as away.

"It's a great credit to the film group and those who really back the film," she said.

Mrs Davy said it was surprise for the group, which had not really thought about awards when making the film.

"Its nice for it to be validated," Mrs Davy said.

"Everyone was very excited."

"(The film shows) the elements of different histories."
