The Murrumbidgee Field Naturalists will host a presentation by Martin Odino on Thursday.
Mr Odino will speak about his work in the rice fields of the Bunyala district in Western Kenya.
He has been working to stop the indiscriminate poisoning of all bird species, not just the pest species that feed on the rice crops at Bunyala.
Of major concern were the migratory wading birds that use the rice fields as a refueling site on their long flights from their breeding grounds in Northern Europe to their summer feeding grounds in Southern Africa.
All of the birds are threatened by loss of habitat and Mr Odino is hoping to educate the Leeton shire rice growers to protect these and other species that fall victim to the untargeted poisoning.
He will discuss his endeavours to prevent the killing of these birds and his attempts to convince the African villagers of the need to protect those species that cause little or no harm.
Another concern of Mr Odino's is villagers buying the dead birds as a source of food from the poachers that poison them.
His presentation will be held at the library on September 18 from 7.30pm.
