Year 12 student Steven Butler and Georgina Murdoch of year 11 will both take part in the WorldSkills Australia national final in Perth this week.
The students both won gold in their respective categories of electrotechnology and primary industries during regional competitions last year.
They will be among 500 competitors from across Australia competing for gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as the chance to proceed to the international level in Brazil next year.
Steven and Georgina are taking part in the school component of the event and were looking forward to testing their skills.
"I've been given five of the six projects that we have to do and I've been practicing those," Steven said.
Steven would like to pursue a career as an electrician after completing his studies this year, while Georgina is still undecided.
She said the skills she had gained as part of the competition were helpful.
Georgina will focus on many different areas during the competition, including fencing, chemicals and livestock.
Apart from one other student in Wagga, it is believed the pair are the only two school students from NSW that have progressed to the national level.
"It's a good opportunity ... I'd definitely recommend it to others," Georgina said.
Leeton shire will also have other representatives attending the competition after winning at a regional level through the TAFE NSW Riverina Institute Leeton campus.
