A MAN was given little chance to defend himself when he was punched while walking along a Leeton street on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old Leeton man was walking in Oak Street just after 3pm on Saturday when it is alleged he was assaulted by another Leeton resident.
The victim told police he noticed a vehicle drive past with the alleged attacker inside beside shortly before he heard someone running up behind him.
Police allege the victim was punched numerous times in the face in broad daylight before a number of witnesses came to his aid.
"A number of people came to the victim's assistance," Griffith Local Area Command Inspector Kim Traynor said. "The offender left the scene ... the victim attended the police station the next day (Sunday) to report the incident.
"There were a number of witnesses, so police have appealed to them or anyone else that might have seen this incident to speak with Leeton police.
"Our inquiries are continuing.
"Alcohol was not a factor in this incident."
It is believed the victim may have known his attacker.
