Council recently applied for a NSW Sport and Recreation - Participation and Facilities program grant to upgrade the pumping station at the Leeton golf course.
The grand provides funding for projects that increase sporting participation and facility improvements.
Council was successful in gaining a grant of $12,191, but the total cost of the project was $24,383, with the funds representing 50 per cent of what was needed.
The golf course sub-committee donated $6000 towards the project, with the remaining $6191 needing to be funded by council.
It was decided the money could be found in council's capital works reserve.
However, that money will stay in the kitty thanks to a grant from Golf NSW.
Council was due to approve the funds be taken from the capital works reserve at its September meeting, but it was announced on the night the money could stay where it was thanks to the grant.
In a report to council, manager of parks and recreation services Josh Clyne said the work would improve facilities at the golf course.
"The pumping station upgrade will see the construction of a new shed, new suction line, automated filtering system and new computer control panel," he said.
"(This) will result in greater water delivery efficiencies.
"The pump station upgrade is an important first step in the overall plan to install a new automated irrigation system for which grant funding opportunities are being investigated."
