Year 12 student Steven Butler and Georgina Murdoch of year 11 participated in the event in Perth during the recent school holidays with much success.
Steven was awarded a gold medal in the electrotechnology component, while Georgina brought home the silver in the primary industries section.
Both competed in the vocational education and training in schools category of WorldSkills after winning their way through at a regional level.
"We had three days of competition ... they were full-on for the entire time," Steven said.
"I learned a lot from taking part, like time management skills and being organised.
"It was a really good opportunity."
Steven would like to forge a career path in the electrotechnology industry following the completion of his HSC.
He thanked staff at the TAFE NSW Riverina Institute Leeton Campus for their assistance with the competition.
Georgina was also required to complete various tasks throughout the competition, including theory, fencing, chemicals, livestock and safety components.
"There were lots of people there, so we got to meet new people and network a bit," Georgina said.
"I think I did better than I thought I was going to, but I was pretty prepared for it.
"The teachers here (at YAHS) really helped me a lot."
YAHS principal Daryl Finch praised the pair for their achievement.
"It's a fantastic achievement and one we are very proud of," Mr Finch said.
"I believe we are the only school in NSW to have two students come back with medals."
