After more than two years a new town sign has been developed, constructed and is in place at the north-western entrance to Leeton on Main Road 80.
A committee was formed in 2012 to come up with the idea and design of the signs that was led by councillor Peter Davidson.
After numerous delays with the project, Cr Davidson was pleased to have one of the signs now in place.
"There's still a couple of little things to do like a bit of landscaping around the area, but I'm happy with how it has turned out," he said.
"I think the proportion of the sign and the lettering is right ... some have said the word 'Leeton' should be a bit bigger, but if it was I think it would overshadow 'Wiradjuri Country'.
"I'm always really happy with the way the colours have turned out."
Last year Leeton Shire Council was given a presentation of scale models of the signs in July, which depicted how they would look and examples of colour schemes.
Council agreed the pallet of blue and cream would be favourable and has now been used on the first sign.
The issue of Leeton shire's ageing town signs has been one many have wanted to fix, with council having a budget in place for more than 10 years in order to do so.
"Now that we've got this first one done we should be able to cut down on the costs on the next ones ... we've learned a fair bit during the process," Cr Davidson said.
It is eventually hoped the signs will be placed at all entrances to Leeton, as well as at Whitton, Murrami, Wamoon and Yanco.
The current green entry signs to town will be taken down.
