The federal government has set aside more than $2 billion for the Roads to Recovery program, with Leeton Shire Council allocated $2,814,235 until 2018-19.
This year's amount is an increase on previous allocations.
Council director of engineering and technical services Barry Heins said every bit of funding helped.
"Council has a forward works program for all of our infrastructure and this money certainly assists to complete those projects," Mr Heins said.
"Knowing that it's an increase in funding (on what) we've had in the past is positive.
"We've used Roads to Recovery funding in the past before for Petersham Road ... Mount Harris Road is the next project, so some of this money could be put towards that."
The objective of Roads to Recovery initiative is to contribute to and support the maintenance of the nation's road infrastructure assets.
Additional funding set aside for 2015-16 means that each council will receive a double payment under the initiative.
Mr Heins said there were numerous benefits to the scheme.
"Money that comes in for this purpose can help complete jobs, while funds we already had set aside can be put towards other projects," he said.
"It's very beneficial to council ... anything that helps or improves our road network is appreciated."
Member for Riverina Michael McCormack was pleased the government was delivering on its promise.
"The 2014-15 allocation will give councils a real boost for their local road maintenance and upgrading," he said.
