A DEVASTATING spell of quick bowling by Yanco Cougars' gun junior Luke Rimmer blew L&D CC out of the water at Mark Taylor Oval on Saturday.
Opening the bowling alongside Corey Graham (1-18), Rimmer took 6-15 as the young tyro zinged the opposition and gave his side the chance for outright points after the first day of play.
With wickets falling in clusters, L&D was dismissed for 77 and Cougars were 4-127 in reply at stumps.
Rimmer removed Ferrets openers Ben Elwin (8) and Antony Tocin (9) and was on a hat-trick when he bowled Reece Maguire first ball.
Dan Davies (13) and Peter Lashbrook (11) added spine to the L&D middle order, but they could not hold it together under the pressure of the Cougars attack.
Rhys Wilesmith (1-17) took care of Davies and Rimmer returned to get rid of Lashbrook.
Mitchell Hardie (1-5) dismissed Tyler Boller (8) and the rest was left to Rimmer and Graham.
Now turning out to bat, it was Graham who provided the anchor for the chase and remains unbeaten at stumps on 65. The opening partnership with Adrian Axtill brought 70 runs before Maguire (3-44) got into the action with his offies, bowling Axtill, trapping Hardie (4) leg before and bowling Mackenzie Saddler first ball to put himself on a hat-trick.
The day ended with Stave Campbell (3no) supporting Graham.
Maguire's efforts with the ball will give his side hope, while Sam Alampi took one wicket.
Cougars will look to consolidate next week and build a sizeable lead to ensure they won't need to bat again.
