October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with events hosted by the Leeton Breast Cancer Support Group raising much-needed funds for the cause.
A street stall was held in early October, and the month was rounded out by two pink dinners held at Pages on Pine last weekend.
About $7000 was raised during the month, which included donations from a pink bowls day at the Leeton Soldiers Club, and personal and business donations.
Leeton Breast Cancer Support Group member Laney Lashbrook-Gough was overwhelmed by the support.
"Leeton seems to be more and more generous every year," she said.
"The pink dinners were fantastic once again ... I think people really look forward to them.
"We had a few new faces there this year, which was good to see."
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women.
Survival rates continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis.
Mrs Lashbrook-Gough said October provided a good opportunity to spread the word about the disease.
"It's still quite surprising how many people aren't aware of the month," she said.
"We do this so we can raise awareness of breast cancer and the need for people to be aware of it.
"People should know how to check themselves and then go see a doctor if they have any concerns.
"It's been a great month of fund-raising and we are still going with our major raffle.
"People have been really generous.
"Even if it's just $1 that people give us, it's $1 we didn't have yesterday."
The major raffle will be drawn in December.
