A new leader for the Leeton unit has moved to town and she would like to reestablish Guides as a choice of community activity for girls.
Shelley Campbell moved from Goulburn where she had been an active member of Girl Guides and wants to bring the experience of being a Girl Guide back to Leeton.
She admits to being surprised Leeton didn't have an active unit.
"I stopped (going to Guides) when I was 14, but came back to the organisation in 2012 because I had been missing it," Miss Campbell said.
"I didn't want to let it fall by the wayside, that's why I want to get the unit up."
An extension of the Scouting movement, Girl Guides meet on a weekly basis during school term to do games, outdoor activities, craft, cooking, and camping.
Becoming a Guide enables girls to have fun and make new friends, learn about leadership and teamwork, and many other life skills.
It is one of few female-dominated groups and Guides has moved with the times.
The Guiding promise changed in 2012, it has diversified its skill requirements and co-ordinates with wider community activities.
Guide numbers across the region are healthy with units in Temora, Wagga, Hay and Deniliquin.
Miss Campbell is hoping to start a Junior Guides unit for seven- to 10- year-olds.
However, former leader Naomi McDougal said if enough older girls were interested, a Guides unit could possibly be formed.
Mrs McDougal said there had been inquiries about Guiding over the last 12 months.
"It would be nice to have more than five girls," she said.
"Shelley's certainly got a lot of legwork to do to get it promoted.
"You also need willing parents to support the unit once it is up and going. To run the unit we need parent helpers.
"I am certainly hoping to help Shelley in what ways I can.
"There is a benefit for girls to be learning skills. Guides was always a broad learning experience in its own right."
Miss Campbell aims to have a Junior Guide unit established to coincide with the new school year.
A come and try event for Guides will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 4.30pm at the Girl Guides Hall in Athel Crescent, Leeton.
