The Department of Education and Communities announced in October the school would close and amalgamate with Whitton Public School.

Since then students have started the transition process to Whitton Public, which will be led by outgoing Murrami Public principal Duncan Adams.

Students spent their afternoon at Murrami Public on Wednesday taking turns at ringing the school bell and gathering with parents and staff to bid farewell to those that will go on to high school next year.

Mr Adams said students were excited about the prospect of the changes.

"This is an excellent outcome for both schools as these two rural communities will have a viable small school, providing a quality education for its students into the future," he said.

"In reaching this decision, all processes have been followed and both school communities are optimistic about the future education of children from the Murrami and Whitton townships.

"I understand this decision may have come as a surprise to some members of the Murrami community.

"However, given the population decline of Murrami and school enrolment trends throughout the past decade, uniting Murrami PS and Whitton PS is a positive and timely decision."

Students from both schools have been spending time together before the first official day of school on January 28.

A new uniform that includes a different logo and motto will be part of the changes.

The bus route for those students living in Murrami has been confirmed.

Mr Adams said Murrami PS resources would follow the students to Whitton.

"Murrami has a proud history of 90 years of public education," he said.

"The Murrami P&C have been active in ensuring the integrity of the school community is maintained by staying positive and assisting in a smooth transition to the new school site.

"The students at Murrami are excited to have new friends to play with and are looking forward to using the wonderful new resources."
