THE fall-out from the implosion at Yanco Cougars will provide a sizeable boost for L&D CC.
Reigning cricketer of the year Adrian Axtill has been cleared by the Leeton District Cricket Association board of control to leave the Cougars after an internal conflict and join the Ferrets.
That is good news for L&D as, after a slow start to the season, it is starting to get on a one-day roll.
In further good news for the club, a number of other players caught up in the Cougars brouhaha have also signalled an interest in joining L&D.
(However, they have yet to be cleared by the board and an appeal by the club could prove necessary to secure their services.)
This week L&D face former B grade nemesis Phantoms Cricket Club and will be looking to continue its resurgence.
L&D captain Sam Alampi said his side was still struggling for numbers but was now sitting third on the one-day and overall ladders. "We've had a few wins," Alampi said.
"Since we won our first game, we've only lost the two-dayer to Colts.
"We still haven't been training, but we're going to start (last night). We've just been a bit more consistent overall.
The resurgence has been on the back of Ben Elwin's left-arm pace, Reece Maguire's spin and Kieren O'Callaghan stepping up with the bat.
"Benny has been on fire with the ball, Reece has chipped in, everyone has chipped in," Alampi said.
"Reece has had a couple of good scores (with the bat), but Kieren has been the most consistent. He has pretty much been making a start every week.
"We're just enjoying our cricket. There were some shocking results early on and it was demoralising."
The Ferrets will be without O'Callaghan tomorrow at Mark Taylor Oval.
"We need to do all the fundamentals right," Alampi said.
"If (Adam Hopkins) is playing we need to see him off. He's dangerous with the ball.
"We need to keep backing ourselves and do what we've been doing. We haven't been doing too much wrong."
