Three businesses, two schools, one home, the Leeton Indoor Stadium and a private vehicle were all damaged in the spree during the early hours of Friday morning, with police now on the hunt for those responsible. Griffith Local Area Command Inspector Tony Reneker was angered at the disregard shown by the vandals.
"I'm absolutely outraged at what has happened," Inspector Reneker said.
"There has been significant damage in most cases.
"Schools have been broken into and liquid, including paint, thrown around.
"Police do have suspects and we have had forensic services helping with the investigations.
"We're not discounting these incidents could be related to the damage (the previous) week."
The damage Inspector Reneker referred to was at the Roxy Theatre, Mountford Park and in Pine Avenue.
The recent wave of vandalism in the town has prompted Leeton Shire Council to pass a motion at its final meeting of the year that will mean more CCTV cameras will be installed.
Cameras will be installed at the Roxy, indoor stadium, Jarrah Mall and Mountford Park as a "matter of urgency".
The cost to council will be about $40,000, with the funding available in its infrastructure replacement reserve.
"I was once against CCTV, but now I can definitely see strong reasons for us installing it," mayor Paul Maytom told the meeting.
"Hopefully it will be a deterrent because every time we have incidents like this, it is the community that is paying for it in more ways than one."
Inspector Reneker urged residents with information or those that may noticed suspicious behaviour last Thursday night and Friday morning to contact Leeton police on 6953 1399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
