The Christmas and new year period can be one of the busiest times of year for emergency services and, with that in mind, police will be out in force in the coming weeks.
Officers from Griffith Local Area Command will be taking part in numerous operations throughout the festive season, targeting drink and drunk driving, speeding, alcohol-related incidents and more.
Command Inspector Tony Reneker said police would be continuing to focus on alcohol-related violence.
"Police will be out in force throughout the Christmas period, so people will notice that and hopefully be mindful of their behaviour," he said.
"We're hopeful Leeton residents will have a good time if they are out and about, but we want them to do so in a sensible way.
"Police aren't there to ruin the fun, but to ensure everyone is safe."
Inspector Reneker was hopeful there would be no major incidents in the coming weeks.
"We had some serious assaults (the previous) weekend, including one in Leeton, and we don't want to see this happening again," Inspector Reneker said.
"If you're out and you think your mate has had too much to drink, you should be looking after them.
"It's important to look after each other.
"The other reminder is that there will be plenty of random breath testing happening throughout this period.
"If you're going to get behind the wheel when you've been drinking you will get caught."
