Claire was nominated alongside her sister Sarah and brother Jack, but came away with the solo win for her efforts on the squash court.
It has been a big 12 months for Claire and her family, who competed not only across the country in 2014, but also in New Zealand in 2013.
This year's sportsperson awards were announced during the official Australia Day ceremony in Mountford Park, with a number of entrants all vying for the title.
Claire described the announcement as a "complete surprise".
"I definitely didn't think it would be something I would win for sure," she said.
"I'm not sure who nominated the three of us, but we're really grateful."
Among Claire's achievements last year was climbing the ranks in the sport to be at number 11 in Australia.
Along with her siblings she was also successful in winning selection for Victoria in the Australian Junior Squash Championships that were held in Perth.
Claire and Sarah also represented NSW at the Combined High School Championships.
Both sisters received a Riverina Sporting Blue, with Claire also crowned the 2014 Leeton ladies squash club champion.
Claire said the award was something she would cherish.
“I think it’s something for all three of us,” she said.
“It’s good to have the support of Leeton, especially behind myself, Sarah and Jack.
“The best part of playing squash is going to the different tournaments and meeting new people.
“It’s a fun sport to play.”
This year will be no less busy for Claire and her family, with the next major tournament happening in Tasmania next month.
“We’ll have two days there playing for Victoria, so it should be good,” Claire said.
Claire will also be completing her HSC this year.
