Mrs Tuckett was surprised to be announced as the winner of the honour ahead of other nominees Frank Kennedy and mayor Paul Maytom.
“I’m still in shock about it,” she said.
“It does mean a lot to me. For me being nominated was a big enough surprise.
“I’ve been getting lots of phone calls from people saying congratulations.
“I certainly didn’t expect it.
“Leeton is a great place to live, so it’s a bit exciting to be given this award.”
Mrs Tuckett has lived in the Leeton shire area for the majority of her life and it was through her involvement with various organisations that prompted her nomination for the lifelong achievement award.
She is well known for her involvement with the Leeton Red Cross branch where she has spent the last 16 years as president.
Mrs Tuckett is also a keen golfer and a member of the Leeton CWA branch.
Some of her recent projects include knitting poppies for Anzac Day and Red Cross trauma teddies for the Leeton Volunteer Rescue Association.
“I like being involved in the community … it keeps me busy,” Mrs Tuckett said.
“I just plod along and do what I can to help.
“Next year I will have been a member of the CWA for 50 years and a member with the Red Cross for 40 years.
“I like being involved to help people, but also for the friendship and fun.”
Mrs Tuckett’s one word of advice would be for more younger residents to become involved in community groups.
“We desperately need more people to come and help with the Red Cross,” she said.
