The first Leeton Shire Council business breakfast of the year was held on Tuesday.
The Leeton Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the event, putting forward to attendees a range of plans and ideas to boost the profile of the shire.
Strategies to solve the town’s empty shop problem were also put forward.
Chamber president Maryann Vitelli gave a presentation on the morning that also discussed this year’s Leeton Outstanding Business Awards and what the event would involve.
It was the chamber’s ideas to tidy up the main street area that were applauded by those there.
One of the ideas the chamber has is for sticker art or removable signage decal to be used in the windows of empty shops.
Miss Vitelli said it would brighten and clean up the look of Leeton’s main street area.
“The idea would be for community groups, businesses or sporting organisations to purchase a signage package promoting what they do,” she said.
“It has the potential to then attract people to look at the space and get more tenants in the building.
“However, we have been having trouble getting a hold of the landlords for this project.
“The more people that want to take part, the more traction we will have to get it happening.
“It would really improve the look of the main street.”
The other major project being undertaken by the chamber this year is the “Look Leeton First” campaign.
Miss Vitelli said the tagline was not intended as a “guilt trip” to buy in Leeton, rather a reminder that there is a wide range of services available in town.
The campaign is separated into two parts – “where it goes where it stays” and “This is Our Leeton”.
“The first makes people aware that when they spend money in our town it stays here,” Miss Vitelli said.
“By spending money in town you’re not just helping the business, but it’s employees, sporting organisations, charities and more.”
The second part of the campaign is aimed at showcasing the businesses and industries that shape Leeton shire.
“There are many interesting stories that businesses have to tell, particularly family businesses,” Miss Vitelli said.
Businesses taking part in the campaign will share their story to create a sense of pride in the town and push Leeton to the forefront of the MIA.
Packages can be purchased to be part of the campaigns, with more information available by contacting Miss Vitelli.
