Despite being “black Friday” there was not a black cat to be seen as the ponies made their way onto the track.
With several changes to the starting times, the minis managed to fit in two races before the “big horses” hit the track for their first.
The club’s youngest driver Jed Driscoll had his best night to date, with his pony Jetstar going nicely for him and finishing in the prize money for two of the three races.
Dylan Smith tried hard all night on his new pony My Little Rocket.
Race one had siblings Ryan, Hannah and Jed take out the honours.
Ryan Pitt aboard Nanna Smoke crossed the line in front, with Hannah (Little Secret) a close second.
Little brother Jed Driscoll grinned across the line on Jetstar for third.
Race two proved to be equally exciting with Nikkita Smith steering Seven to the front for a win.
Danika Stevens took Shadow to second place and Jed made it another third place for his roan pony Jetstar.
Race three had Willie Wagtail dominate and redeemed himself to his driver Siarne Deeves.
After starting badly and racing roughly in both of the previous races, Siarne was not impressed with her charge.
Ryan also rounded everyone up and took out second place with Nanna Smoke.
Hannah took Shadow across the line in third.
Once again “lucky drivers” draws were conducted with Nikkita, Dylan and Siarne all collecting a useful item for the stable courtesy of the trackside sponsors.
Leeton executive and drivers are busily preparing their entries for the State Mini Trotting Championships to be held at Gunning Showground over the Easter weekend. All seven regular Leeton ponies are hopeful of qualifying to compete at this event in 2015.
Although it is a hectic weekend there is also lots of fun to be had and old friends to catch up with in between competition.
The Leeton Mini Trotting Club’s next hit-out will be at the Leeton track on March 22. This is a Sunday twilight meeting at Lin Gordon Paceway. with the mini trotter’s first race scheduled for about half an hour before the starting time of the first of the harness races.
A vocal crowd would be much appreciated as the ponies go around.
