Leeton played Griffith Blacks and Wagga City in a round-robin style competition.
Phantoms co-coach Liam Ward was impressed with his sides tenacity on the day.
“We were disappointed to not have more teams involved in the competition,” Ward said.
“However, it was a good hit out for us and Griffith and Wagga.
“We were fortunate to come out on top and win the competition, which was really fantastic.
“I know the boys will be taking a lot from it.”
Ward said there had been a number of standout players on the day and said the side was still yet to reach full strength.
“We’ve still got two more backs to come into the team,” he said.
“There’s plenty of fire power still to come.
“It’s good because it means everyone is focused on keeping their spot.”
The Phantoms have been training since January and is proving to be a key to their pre-season success.
The Dianas also played on Saturday.
“The girls played really well,” Ward said.
“I know they were short a couple of players, but they played really well and will be better for the run.
“I have no doubt they will be strong again this year.”
The Dianas will once more be hoping to have a strong season and make the grand final for the third consecutive year.
“They will be hoping to go one better this year and win the grand final,” Ward said.
“It’s a talented bunch of experience and youth.”
The Phantoms will now focus on training in preparation for the year ahead.
“We’ll really kick it up a gear again now at training,” Ward said.
“Our first game of the year is on April 11 against Ag College, so all of our focus will now be on getting ready for that.
“We obviously want to start the season with a win.
“At training we’ll be upping the ante and working on different things.
“There will be a lot more work on the scrum, our defence strategy and those one-on-one contests.
“This year we’ve got a bit of a positive attitude and atmosphere around the club, which is really good heading into the season.”
