The society has invited residents to participate in a cemetery walk and memorial unveiling.
Society president Wendy Senti said with the centenary of the landing of Gallipoli it was a rare opportunity to hear unique stories.
“Our cemetery walk will begin with the unveiling of the memorial headstone on the previously unmarked grave of Herbert Fanstone,” she said.
“He was the designer of some of Australia’s first naval bases, while he was the director of Public Works from 1911 to 1916. We will then guide you to the graves of some Gallipoli and WWI veterans and share their stories.”
The event will be held on April 26 from 2pm at the Leeton cemetery.
