The Hawks remain winless so far this year in the Group 20 competition, but coach Simon Watson is hoping that will change on Sunday.
However, his side will be up against it, with various players still to overcome niggling injuries.
“We struggled last weekend, but the game before that I thought we played well,” Watson said.
“If we can play like that again against Hay then we’re in with a chance.
“We do have a couple of blokes that are injured.
“We just don’t have that depth this year.”
Watson was wary of the Magpies, but was hopeful his side would gel together for a win.
“Hay have a really good coach … I rate him,” Watson said.
“I had heard they’ve signed up a few big boys and I expect them to be fit.
“We need to try and counter that.
“As a side we need to make sure we are putting on the pressure and pushing up as pairs.
“That’s what we have been working on at training.
“It needs to be a full team effort.
“We need to be switched on from the start.
“Running up as a team is a big thing.
“We need to get that right on game day.”
